Getting your nails done on Russian Hill offers an opportunity to work with some of the best beauty professionals in the country. If you don’t know already, dip powder nails are the hot new trend that is sweeping salons everywhere. Dip powder nails last much longer than gels or acrylics and even look better too. This hot new technique colors your nails with a flattering pigmented powder and is actually better for your nails! In order to enjoy them for a longer period of time, there are a few easy things you can do to preserve your beautiful new nails!

Avoid applying nail polish to the cuticle.

It may sound strange, but directly applying polish to your cuticle can lift the paint and cause your nails to chip. For those who don’t know, the cuticle is the thin layer of clear skin on the bottom edge of your fingernail. Applying polish to this area will dry out your nail and eventually lift and chip it.

Use cool air to dry your polish.

Warm air will dry out your polish and lead to chipping. Try to always use a fan with cool air on a low setting. Leave your hand under the fan for a few minutes until everything is dried up. If you’re using a hairdryer, make sure you have it on a cool setting and at a low speed.

Reapply the top coat.

General maintenance is always key to keeping your nails looking pretty and fresh. After a few days, it is recommended that you reapply the top coat to keep your nail strong and help prevent chipping. Avoid applying thick layers of polish that will become difficult to remove when you decide to use a new color the next time around.

Avoid hand sanitizer.

In the wake of COVID-19, avoiding hand sanitizer may prove difficult. However, hand sanitizer dries out your skin and inflicts damage upon your top layer of polish. Try to stick to washing your hands using soap and water and don’t overwash them because large quantities of soap can also dry out your skin.

Don’t bite or peel your nails (obviously).

Some people develop nervous habits of biting or peeling their nails. If you are prone to doing this, it might be best that you abstain from getting dip powder nails.
